With summertime right around the corner, many families in New York are already planning on ways to spend time together. The warmer weather often means people are eager to get outside and have some fun. During the summer, one of the most common things for folks to do is visit an amusement park or outdoor festival.
For the most part, people have a good and safe time at these places. However, there are thousands of people who suffer a serious accident because of unsafe conditions on these rides. And a recent study confirms that many of the victims of these accidents are young children.
According to researchers, the number of people who are injured on amusement rides at fairs, parks and malls increases dramatically in the summer. In fact, about 70 percent of the more than 4,000 people who are injured on these rides are injured between May and September.
The most common accidents that happen on these rides happen when a person suffers a fall, which is the case in 32 percent of reported incidents. More than one-third of the injuries happen at amusement parks and 29 percent of the injuries are suffered by mobile rides that are typically found at fairs and festivals.
Understanding who is at fault for these accidents can be a little confusing for victims and their families to figure out. In some cases, rides are regulated by state or local governments, in others they are regulated by property owners of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
In any accident that happens as a result of someone’s negligence, which includes maintaining unsafe conditions and failure to comply with safety regulations, victims have the right to hold that party accountable. Injuries can be very serious and may require intensive or ongoing care, which can be very expensive. An innocent victim should not have to pay the price for another person’s negligence.
