Summer is winding down, and Labor Day is fast approaching. This means that numerous New York residents are looking to enjoy their last few weeks of summer before school starts and cold weather sets in. This also means that law enforcement will be on the lookout for impaired drivers. Yes, ready or not, another DWI crackdown is already underway.

The Stop-DWI Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign started on Aug. 19 and will be in effect through Sept. 7. Law enforcement officers from all over the state will be looking for drivers who are driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. So, New Yorkers should expect to see a greater police presence when they are out and about.

Campaigns like this occur several times throughout the year. Every year, thousands of people end up being arrested, and many more are ticketed for DWI and other traffic violations. This year, law enforcement officials, along with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, would like to see these numbers go down. So, they are strongly promoting the use of the Have a Plan mobile app. This app helps people make transportation arrangements if they plan on consuming impairing substances when away from their homes.

Anyone who is arrested or ticketed during this DWI crackdown has the right to fight the charges against them. Thankfully, this is a fight they do not have to take on alone. With the assistance of an experienced defense attorney, the criminal and administrative issues can be addressed and the associated consequences avoided or, at least, minimized.
