A fatal accident occurred on Thursday evening. A 73-year-old New York woman was killed in a pedestrian car accident when she was hit near her driveway. Now, authorities are on the hunt for the hit-and-run driver.
Authorities believe that the accident happened when the woman arrived home from work. She had parked her vehicle near her home and was going to walk up her steep driveway when she was hit by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, resulting in police initiating a search. Sadly, the woman did not survive the impact. Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the motorist responsible for this incident.
Authorities do not have a description of the vehicle but have indicated that it may have damage to the headlight on the right front. It also may have damage to the fender. The victim was a mother with several sons and worked at a pet supply store. She was described as being a nice and kind person. A reward has been offered for any information regarding the fatality.
A car accident can be overwhelming, particularly for families when a death has occurred. If the driver in this hit-and-run accident is located, authorities may criminally charge the individual. In addition to possible criminal charges, the driver may also have to answer to civil litigation brought by the deceased’s family. The family may wish to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver to recoup damages caused by the incident. The civil court system in New York may issue financial relief to the family if evidence deems the driver operated in a negligent manner that caused or contributed to the victim’s death.
