A man was allegedly driving under the influence when he was involved in a recent car accident in Suffolk County. The auto accident injured two people in a head-on collision, and one is in serious condition. The New York man was charged with driving while intoxicated and was detained overnight.

Reports indicate that the man was headed east on a local roadway early on a Saturday morning. His Chevy Malibu crashed head-on with a Toyota sedan that was headed west. The Toyota driver suffered only minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. A 21-year-old female occupant in the Toyota suffered serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital. There were four other occupants in the Toyota, but the exact details of their conditions have not been reported.

The alleged drunk driver suffered minor injuries. He was detained and was ordered to make a court appearance the following day. Authorities are asking the public for assistance in providing further information regarding the accident.

An auto accident can cause victims to suffer from a number of injuries and financial burdens. Victims often sustain lost wages as a result of missed time from work, in addition to significant medical costs and related expenses. The occupants of the Toyota, as well as the passengers of the Chevy, may wish to pursue personal injury claims in a New York civil courtroom against the alleged drunk driver in an attempt to recover any out-of-pocket medical expenses and reimbursement of lost wages. If the evidence establishes negligence on the part of the Toyota driver, financial relief may be awarded in amounts as deemed appropriate.
