Motor vehicle accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. For any number of reasons, a driver may lose control of a vehicle and end up crashing into something. Sometimes accidents occur when road conditions are poor. Other times, an accident is the result of faulty brakes or improper maintenance. But often times, an accident is caused by a negligent or reckless driver. These can be among the most devastating accidents because they are often preventable.

What started as a minor fender bender quickly turned into a very serious crash recently in a New York car accident. The incident involved an alleged reckless driver who not only crashed into another vehicle, but then fled the scene and then crashed into a building. About 17 people were ultimately affected by the dangerous behavior of one driver.

According to reports, a 61-year-old man got into a very minor accident with another driver. No one was hurt and the entire incident could have stopped there. However, rather than take responsibility for the minor collision, the man fled the scene in his vehicle only to end up crashing into an apartment building.

There were 16 people inside the building when the man barreled into it. They all had to be evacuated and are now living in temporary housing until they can return to their homes. Luckily no one was seriously injured in the wreck, but the damage that was caused by the accident is significant.

Not only was the driver reckless in leaving the scene of the first accident, but police found that he should never have been driving in the first place. According to reports, the man was driving on a suspended license.

The families affected by this crash have likely suffered some serious physical and emotional trauma after such a terrifying and avoidable accident. Being the victim of any type of a car accident can leave people with emotional and physical injuries that linger on long after a wreck has been cleared. Repairing this kind of damage is often much more difficult than repairing a piece of property.
