The dean of students of an all-boys Jesuit school in New York was taken into custody after he was suspected of possessing illegal drugs. According to police reports, the 35-year-old man was found sleeping in his car near a business. Upon approaching the car, police say the school administrator told them he was feeling ill and took some medication. He allegedly showed them eight pills that were not in an appropriate container.
Inside the car, police say they found three syringes, two spoons and folded paper that they suspect contained heroin. The dean was charged with illegal storage of narcotics because the prescription drugs were not in their original bottle, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of narcotics.
The 100-year-old private school that he works for released a statement when they learned of the charges, explaining that they take the charges very seriously and that the Dean of Students has been suspended pending an investigation. School official stated that the activities their dean is accused of fall under their zero tolerance policy. The dean posted bond in the amount of $2,500.
The Dean of Students is accused of very serious drug offenses that may have long-term consequences for his personal life and career if he is convicted. The lawyer he chooses to represent him should have experience defending professionals like him against drug charges. After reviewing the evidence against him, his lawyer may begin working on his defense. Working with his attorney, he may choose to take his case to trial or work out an agreement with the prosecutor for reduced charges and a shorter sentence. Some of the possible sentences may include prison, a drug treatment program and probation.
