A 20-year-old man was recently arrested. He faces multiple charges regarding a car accident that killed two people and injured an 11-year-old. New York authorities are still investigating this incident.

According to reports, the man was operating in a dangerous manner while three underage children were in the vehicle with him. He dropped the passengers off at a fast food restaurant and then reportedly proceeded to drive in the wrong lane. One of the vehicles forced off the road to avoid an impact was a police cruiser. A police chase eventually ensued, the man reportedly crashed into a Honda and the occupants were trapped in the vehicle until rescue crews extricated them.

Sadly, the driver of the Honda was declared dead at the scene. A 38-year-old female occupant was flown into a medical facility, where she later died. An 11-year-old girl was also flown into the hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. The man who was allegedly involved in a previous hit-and-run was arrested and charged with driving while drug-impaired and fleeing a police officer. He was also faced other traffic-related charges and is being held at a county jail on a $200,000 bond or $100,000 cash bail.

A car accident is devastating for most people, especially when deaths have occurred. In this case, an 11-year-old child is left without either of her parents due to the alleged actions of another party. In spite of the overwhelming tragedy, the family of the deceased may still have legal recourse to file wrongful death claims against the driver as an appropriate legal remedy. The injured child may also have similar rights under our New York civil laws to file a personal injury claim to recover damages suffered.
