Bigger cities tend to have more car accidents, especially as the population grows and more drivers are on the roadways. Car accidents occur on a frequent basis in New York, but a bus accident is not as frequent. A deadly bus accident occurred recently, killing an eight-month old infant.

The fatal accident occurred when a bus driver was allegedly driving erratically through the streets of New York. The driver was unable to maintain control of the bus and collided with a light pole. An eight-month old infant in a stroller was nearby and was squashed by the pole. Sadly, the infant died as a result of the incident.

The bus driver was arrested and charged with reckless driving, death by auto and cellphone use while driving. This comes as no surprise since the driver has a past history of inappropriate driving behavior, including failure to stop at a stop sign and speeding. He had also been ticketed previously for improperly letting off passengers and running a red light. He is being held at a county jail on a $250,000 bond.

Understandably, fatal car accidents are devastating for the surviving family members, especially when an infant has lost her life. The New York bus driver must answer to his criminal charges and may need to respond to a civil lawsuit. The family members of the deceased infant may pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver. The family may be compensated financially if evidence shows the bus driver is responsible for the death.
