Firefighters from four different New York fire departments responded to a crash scene in Orange County on a recent Saturday afternoon. While the New Windsor accident reconstruction unit continued its investigation, a 51-year-old man was sent to jail on $10,000 cash bail or bond. He is awaiting his next court hearing to face drunk driving charges and more.
According to New Windsor police, the two-vehicle collision happened at approximately 2:30 p.m. in an intersection. Firefighters hurried to extricate one driver who was trapped in his vehicle while drifting in and out of consciousness. They say he suffered leg and facial injuries, and he was airlifted to a hospital.
The second driver, a 51-year-old Campbell Hall man, was allegedly driving while impaired. The report indicates he had a blood alcohol content of .18 percent. He is now facing several felony charges, including aggravated drunk driving and first-degree vehicular assault, among others.
