Obeying the traffic laws is essential for drivers on the road. This helps minimize the chances of an accident occurring that could cause injury or even death. One of the most important rules to follow is the speed limit, since the faster one drives the less time one has to react to any obstructions or other cars on the road. Unfortunately this rule may have been broken in a recent fatal auto accident in New York which resulted in two deaths.
The incident happened in late June at approximately 1:15 a.m. when an 18-year-old male driver was traveling on the road in a 1996 Honda. He was attempting to pass another car at a high rate of speed when the incident occurred. The other car was a 1999 Pontiac that was being driven by his 19-year-old brother.
As the Honda was attempting to pass it sideswiped the Pontiac causing the Pontiac to lose control. The Pontiac ended up crashing into a curb and then smashing into a tree. The driver of the Honda and a 17-year-old female passenger found themselves trapped in the car. Unfortunately the driver of the Honda did not survive the impact and died at the scene of the crash, while his passenger died at the hospital.
The driver of the Pontiac and his 21-year-old female passenger survived the crash and did not suffer any injuries. Authorities impounded both cars and are now investigating into whether or not the two drivers were racing each other. The surviving family members of the 17-year-old girl that died in the auto accident in New York are eligible to file a wrongful death lawsuit against those they feel may be responsible for the deadly incident. A successfully litigated claim may help provide some monetary reimbursement for their loss.
